Children are a blessing… and funny too!

Isaiah is getting to be such a big boy! The things that come out of his mouth astonish us. He can count to six! He keeps going after six, but things kind of fall apart at that point. I hate to admit it, but in part, I think he learned it from watching some educational show. He can repeat almost any word that we ask him to say. He’s made a lot of people happy by saying their name recently. We’re trying to teach him Papa and Gran, so he’ll be ready for our trip to Arkansas in a couple weeks. He can say both, but he really likes to say “PaPop” because it’s such a fun word!He has little names for all his favorite movies: Miss Patty Cake is “Cak-Cak,” The Ballad of Little Joe is “Joe,” Duke and the Great Pie War is “Du,” and Sumo of the Opera is “Sumo.” Today I was trying to figure out what movie he wanted to see, so I kept showing him the DVD cases and asking, “this one?” With each one he said, “No, I don’t want it,” until we came to “Sumo”, which was his selection. Yesterday he wanted to see “Joe,” but Chris couldn’t find Joe, so he asked Isaiah, “Where is Joe?” Isaiah shrugged his little shoulders and said, “I don’ know. Where is he?”

Sometimes when I get off the phone with Chris, Isaiah will ask, “Who was that?” If I bump myself or have some other minor injury, he’ll ask right away, “You OK?” Yesterday he kept fussing and saying, “Dump! Dump!” Chris couldn’t figure out what he wanted, until it finally dawned on him that Isaiah had played on a bounce house at church the day before and he wanted to go jump! It was pretty hard to convince him that there was no “jump” that day.

Isaiah loves going to church. Anytime I ask if he wants to go somewhere, he immediately starts saying, “Chu’ch! Chu’ch!” He usually gets upset if we don’t go to church… I’ve yet to convince him that the grocery store is just as much fun. A couple weeks ago, he had a cold, so I didn’t want to put him in nursery and get all the other kids sick. He was devastated! Finally the nursery ladies convinced me it was fine to let him come in… after all, the other kids had already been sick and given the cold to him. I hadn’t realized nursery was such a big deal until then.

We had a BBQ for the worship team at our Pastor’s house on Sunday. It was raining (which is unusual for this time of year). Isaiah knows his way around their house too well, and he just makes himself at home. We couldn’t find him, so Chris poked his head out the front door. He heard stomping on the balcony above his head, so he went upstairs to check it out. He found Isaiah out on the balcony, with the door shut behind him, dancing in the rain! When Isaiah saw Chris, he ran to hide behind a patio chair, like that would keep him from getting in trouble. Chris said he couldn’t help but laugh at him!

I’m feeling the baby move a lot! Chris felt it for the first time the other night. The baby gave his hand a good, swift kick! That’s my favorite part of pregnancy. We asked Isaiah if he thought the baby was a boy or a girl and he shrugged his shoulders . We don’t know yet, either. We’ll probably find out by the end of June!
