We left Leah with a babysitter, but we thought Isaiah was old enough to enjoy the game. Our seats were right behind the visiting team’s dugout, so he could see what was going on. He was a little disgruntled that the Pirates didn’t look very piratey. I explained that they were pirates, but they were wearing their baseball clothes. Then he saw the big green parrot mascot and he was OK.
The first part of the game, Isaiah was focused on what kind of food he could get, but then Chris got him a foam pirate sword to wave and Isaiah suddenly morphed into a baseball fan. He was shouting “charge” when the crowd shouted charge. He was waving his yellow sword and cheering wildly when there was a home run. He really got into it, so he may be a Pirate fan for life.
It was a super fun night and I was surprised how much I enjoyed being back at a baseball game. I have lots of good memories growing up going to the Appleton Foxes games with my family. A Pirates game is definitely a cut above the Foxes (or Timber Rattlers as they became), but it brought back those good feelings. At one point Chris and Isaiah went exploring and discovered a play area in the stadium, so I was finally free to actually watch the game and I got caught up in it… especially since the Pirates were scoring a bunch right then!
